Bread Cat Meme

I love cats, I love every kind of cat, and I want to hug them all but I can't, can't.

So, instead I make art jewelry based on cats!  :)

Here's the latest one.  If you haven't seen the meme of "cat breading", look it up.  It's funny.
Available at my Shapeways shop:  http://www.shapeways.com/model/1011368/bread-cat.html

This first photo is of the Bread Cat in Antique Bronze plated stainless steel

These two photos show what it looks like in Sterling Silver.

Fantasy Show at Meltdown Comics

Here's a picture of me in front of my art "Giant Bathing Beauty" at a recent fantasy themed art show held at the famous Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd. in the nerdist gallery in Hollywood!  This is the second show I've been in at Meltdown, and they are always a lot of fun with a huge turnout.

The worlds most important sculpture (based on the worlds most important painting)

Perhaps you heard about the woman that decided to try and "fix" an ancient fresco on the wall of a church in Italy.  You can see the before and after image to see what she did to it.   I decided it was only fitting to make a sculpture based on her important "masterpiece".  If you would like one, you can get it here:  http://www.shapeways.com/model/738786/jesus-meme.html?li=productBox-search

Lecture at the prestigious CalArts

I had a great time lecturing to a good sized crowd of art students at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California.  The same school that John Lasseter from Pixar went to, as well as Tim Burton, and dozens upon dozens of Disney animators and artists.

The lecture was all about how any creative person can use high end technology to make art and money from their art.  I spoke about all the major technologies available, where and how to get access to them, as well as ways to advertize and sell your work directly to your customers so you don't have give half the money to a gallery or store.  I also have sections on enhancing the creative process, how to organize your projects, and ways to raise money for the big projects.

It's been a mission of mine for about 7 years to figure out a way that artists could have a better chance of making money from their art so they would not have to rely on working regular jobs, or even art based jobs such as I did in animation.  This lecture was the culmination of almost a decade of research and real life experiences that I've gone through to make the money I've made from my art.

The students seemed get a lot out of it and I saw them taking lots of notes.  I stayed after the lecture for 2 hours to answer questions and help them with current project they are working on.  I received a lot of nice compliments about the lecture by the students before I left

I love helping artists learn how to be self sufficient and getting their creative visions out into the world.  The private consulting I do is great too, but I really enjoyed being able to help so many more people at one time!

Karakasa (the Umbrella Monster/Spirit) as seen in the Japanese movie, "100 Monsters" is my latest creation, and my very first official limited edition art-toy.  He is available in 2 sizes right now.

The large one is about 8 inches tall and the standard sized one is about 4 inches tall.  Available in a few color including Glow-In-the-Dark!  Only 50 of each color is available in each size, and they are signed and numbered.

You can see some in person at the upcoming "Black Xmas" show at QPop gallery in Los Angeles opening December 15th.

Each of these are individually 3D printed by me in house, and then hand sanded and finished.  A total of over 8 hours goes into making the large one and about 4 hours for the standard size.

Karakasa

Pictures of all the available colors and sizes will be in my next post. I'm too busy making these to stop and take more photos today. Have a color you'd like to see? Let me know and if enough people are interested I'll make small run of it in that color.

Invisible Shrunken Heads!

OK, so they aren't "invisible", but rather transparent.  But they are teeny tiny shrunken versions of my head.  I wanted to compare the quality of the frosted ultra detail material at Shapeways.com to doing tiny stuff on my Makerbot Replicator.

Shapeways can definitely print smaller with better detail.  Of course they are using a machine that costs more than 20 times more than the Makerbot.  That's the great thing about Shapeways, I don't have to buy the machine.  I still think the Replicator is fine for much of what I am doing, and great for prototyping stuff before having Shapeways make the final ones.

Here's what the shrunken heads look like:

For a sense of scale, that is my finger behind the heads, and all 3 together are smaller than the dime in the bottom of the picture.  They are TINY!!!

I am hoping to make some small action figures, and I think this technique will work well for that.
